Why are Americans so scared of socialised Healthcare? DON'T YOU WANT TO BE LOOKED AFTER?!

It would be nice to have some. I would like to get a few things taken care of/looked at. Like my knees, since mom is having double knee replacement surgery and I'm already having some problems, I would like very much to have them looked at. Also I think a few of the problems with being a twin and squished in the womb a bit are coming back, probably from the knees exacerbating it.

yea- it'd be nice, wouldn't it?
I hate how in the U.S. you either have to be very young,
or much much older to get medical assistance..
b/c, you know, people our age never suffer from medical ailments

I think a lot of Americans want to be completely independent,
when in reality- they are getting tons of help from the government, and others, already..
Unfortunately, many Americans are super selfish and think that if they had
to work for their crappy insurance..why shouldn't everyone? :disbelief:

Even if yer like me & *have* medicare despite being not-quite-even-middle-aged, it barely covers *anything*. I long ago gave up even trying; now I basically just wing it on my own. Gushing scalp wound? Oh, hey, good thing I know an EMT! (true story, btw.)

I also fix stuff in my apartment 'cause my landlord's a lazy turd. Isn't it sad that I can even make that comparison?

THAT right there deserves a whole season of Mythbusters: the MYTH that independance is even remotely possible. Humans are social animals. We depend on each other for *everything*. Anyone who thinks they take care of themselves is seriously deluded. "I earned everything I have" is an even more blatantly ridiculous fallacy.

I have a close friend who was in a car accident once,
and his head had a huge DEEP gash in it..
He didn't go to the emergency room or any doctors..
I think maybe he didn't go b/c he knew he couldn't afford it..
he looked absolutely terrible, though..
pretty sure he had a concussion..
Found him passed out in his floor
with dried blood caked all over his head..

I don't believe anyone should be so afraid of being in debt,
or of doctors, that they risk dying instead..

(oh and I can definitely relate to landlords not fixing apartments..) :paranoid:
